BREATH SCIENCE TRAINING PATHWAYS

The School of Breath Science offers two professional training pathways for coaches, therapists, health professionals and breath practitioners who want to move beyond isolated techniques and short-term state change, and learn how to use breathing with greater scientific understanding, structure and professional judgement to support meaningful, longer-term change.

Start with BRIT to learn an applied system for restoration, regulation and resilience, or choose BSC for comprehensive practitioner education in functional breathing, assessment, nervous system, psychophysiology, sleep, exercise, therapeutic breathwork and individualised client work.

BRIT EXPLORES

Assessment & HRV

  • Understand baseline patterns, readiness and simple measures that support decision-making.

Restoration

  • Safety, trust and the foundations required before progressing load.

Functional Breathing

  • Breathing mechanics and practical foundations for efficient respiratory behaviour.

Regulation

  • Coherence, resonance and strategies for deliberately shifting physiological state.

Regulation Under Pressure

  • Learn how breathing and state-management strategies hold up when challenge increases.

Resilience

  • Progress from regulation toward adaptability, recovery and capacity under stress.

BSC Integrates

Advanced Functional Breathing

  • Develop greater depth in assessing breathing through respiratory mechanics, biochemistry, ventilation and respiratory control, while learning to interpret functional and dysfunctional patterns within the wider context of the individual.

Applied Psychophysiology

  • Explore nervous-system regulation, stress physiology, interoception, emotion and perception, and how physiological and psychological processes interact to influence symptoms, behaviour and adaptation.

Exercise & Recovery

  • Explore exercise physiology, ventilatory demand and recovery alongside nasal breathing, performance breathing strategies and inspiratory muscle training, learning how respiratory interventions can be assessed, progressed and applied across health, exercise and performance settings.

Sleep Science

  • Study sleep physiology and sleep behaviour, with practical application to recognising and supporting insomnia, identifying signs of sleep-disordered breathing, understanding common screening approaches and knowing when referral for further assessment is appropriate.

Complexity & Burnout

  • Examine burnout through a broader biopsychosocial lens, integrating sleep, stress, physiology, behaviour, recovery and environmental demands. Learn to build an individualised management strategy, prioritise interventions and adapt the plan as the client’s needs and capacity change.

Trauma, Psychology & Therapeutic Breathwork

  • Explore the science and psychology of trauma and therapeutic breathwork, including state-dependent learning, emotion, perception, memory and meaning-making. Examine how altered states and breathwork experiences may be interpreted through contemporary psychological and selected Jungian perspectives, while distinguishing established evidence from theory and speculation.

Assessment & Practitioner Reasoning

  • Develop clinical-style history taking, communication and assessment skills, then learn to form working hypotheses, select appropriate interventions, monitor response and recognise when progression, further investigation or referral is required.

Why Study With Us

breath science training

Breathing is easy to teach as a technique. It is much harder to understand when, why and how it should be applied.

School of Breath Science training is designed to develop practitioners who can think beyond scripts and short-term state change, integrating scientific understanding with assessment, application and professional judgement.

Understand the why
Develop the scientific knowledge to explain what you are doing rather than relying on trends, scripts or one-size-fits-all techniques.

Assess before you intervene
Learn to observe patterns, understand context and gather enough information to make better decisions about where to start.

Work within scope
Develop stronger understanding of contraindications, progression, regression and when another professional or pathway may be more appropriate.

Create meaningful change
Learn how breathing can be integrated with behaviour, recovery, stress management, movement and other interventions to support change that extends beyond the session.

HOW YOU LEARN

  • Structured Education
12-week and 12-week and comprehensive practitioner pathways designed to progressively build knowledge and application.

  • Evidence-Informed Learning
Fully referenced education across breathing, physiology, psychology, stress, sleep, exercise and behaviour.

  • Live Practitioner Development
Interactive sessions focused on practical skills, case discussion, decision-making, questions and real-world application.

  • Tools & Continued Development
Assessments, worksheets, practical resources and ongoing professional education to support your work beyond the core training.

CHOOSE YOUR PATHWAY

Two pathways. Different levels of depth. BRIT is the applied entry point for practitioners who want a structured system for assessment, restoration, regulation and resilience. BSC is the comprehensive practitioner pathway for those wanting greater depth in respiratory science, psychophysiology, sleep, exercise, therapeutic breathwork, assessment and individualised client reasoning.
