The School of Breath Science (SOBS), founded by expert Martin McPhilimey, is a global community dedicated to advancing breathwork through evidence-based training. Our mission is to elevate the industry standards with professional certifications, workshops, and coaching that promote health, well-being or high performance.
The training is for breathwork facilitators, coaches, consultants, health professionals and individuals passionate about science, aiming to excel in coaching, workshops, or retreats. Prior experience in breathwork or health sciences is recommended but not required; high motivation is essential.
Our certification course (group-based) and mentorship (one-on-one with Martin McPhilimey) share an evidence-based curriculum, unlike other certifications focused solely on facilitation. Community membership offers free breath sessions and tiered access to introductory studies.
Yes, our training is evidence-based, with lectures backed by recent peer-reviewed studies. The curriculum includes neuroscience, respiratory physiology, sleep science, and psychology, enriched by yoga, freediving, and clinical coaching insights. Whilst the ciricullum is scientific we do not take away and actually draw inspiration from traditional route and are open to spiritual ideas supporting by science.
Breath science combines breathwork, breathing behaviour, and training, grounded in science in areas that are also associated. We blend clinical knowledge (neuroscience, physiology, psychology) with practical techniques (yoga, freediving, coaching and breathwork) to equip practitioners for effective, evidence-based coaching.
